Wingdings Translator & Converter

Convert text into a Wingdings-style symbol sequence using Unicode dingbats

Text

Symbol output

Nothing you type here is ever sent anywhere — the conversion runs entirely in your browser. This uses standard Unicode symbols rather than the proprietary Wingdings font, so it displays consistently on every device.

About this tool

Wingdings is a proprietary symbol font bundled with Windows and Office, where each letter key displays an unrelated icon instead of that letter. Because that font may not be installed or rendered consistently on every device or browser, this tool takes a different approach: it maps each letter a-z to a distinctive Unicode dingbat or star symbol that is built into virtually every modern system, giving you a similar "secret symbol code" effect that displays reliably everywhere without requiring a special font. Type any text and each letter is swapped for its assigned symbol; anything that isn't a letter (numbers, punctuation, spaces) passes through unchanged.

Is this the exact Wingdings font mapping?

No — the real Wingdings font is a proprietary glyph set tied to a specific font file, which can't be reproduced with plain Unicode text. This tool uses a curated set of star and dingbat Unicode symbols to create a similar visual "secret code" effect that works everywhere without needing that font installed.

Does it handle uppercase letters?

Yes — the whole input is lowercased before mapping, since the symbol table only has one entry per letter, so "Hello" and "HELLO" convert to the same symbol sequence.

What happens to numbers and punctuation?

Only letters a-z are mapped to symbols. Numbers, spaces, and punctuation marks are left exactly as they are in the output.

Text as little symbols

Type or paste your text and each character is swapped for a matching symbol from the Unicode dingbat set, in the spirit of the old Wingdings font. You don't need Wingdings installed, because the symbols are real characters and they copy and paste like text.

It's popular for secret notes, puzzle games, creative captions, and decorative lines for social profiles. Send the result to someone and they see symbols, not the original words, so it works as a very light cipher.

The mapping is the tool's own, so it won't match what you get from setting a document to the Wingdings font. It's also not secure encryption. Anyone with the tool can reverse it.

Good to know

Some apps draw these symbols differently, or as boxes if their font lacks them. Test on the platform you plan to use.
