About this tool

This is a lightweight, regex-based Markdown tidier, not a full Markdown parser or renderer — it doesn't touch your content or convert anything to HTML. Instead it fixes three of the most common sources of inconsistent-looking Markdown: heading markers (#) that are missing a space or have too many, mixed bullet styles (- and * used interchangeably in the same document), and stray runs of three or more blank lines left over from editing. The result is source that reads cleanly and renders predictably in any Markdown viewer.

Does this convert Markdown into HTML or otherwise render it?

No. It only normalizes spacing and markers in the raw Markdown source text — the output is still Markdown, meant to be pasted into a README, CMS, or Markdown editor, not rendered HTML.

Why does it turn every "*" bullet into "-"?

Markdown allows both "-" and "*" (and "+") to start a bullet list, and mixing them in the same document is a common accidental inconsistency, especially when pasting content from different sources. Standardizing on "-" keeps list markers visually consistent throughout the document.

Will this fix broken tables, code fences, or links?

No — this tool only adjusts heading spacing, bullet markers, and blank-line runs. It intentionally leaves tables, code fences, links, and every other Markdown construct untouched, so it's safe to run on any document without altering its structure.
