Turn a video clip into an animated GIF, trimmed, resized, all in your browser
This trims, resizes, and encodes a video clip into an animated GIF using ffmpeg.wasm, a full build of the real ffmpeg video engine compiled to WebAssembly and loaded straight into your browser. "High" quality builds a custom color palette from the clip first (via `palettegen`/`paletteuse`), which produces noticeably better color accuracy than a generic fixed palette, at the cost of a slightly longer encode.
GIF is an old, uncompressed-per-frame format, so file size and memory use grow fast with duration, resolution, and frame rate. Capping duration keeps encoding inside a browser tab practical, for longer clips, trim down to the best few seconds first.
High quality generates a custom 256-color palette tuned to your specific clip before encoding, which reduces banding and color drift. Fast quality skips that step and encodes directly, which is quicker but can look noticeably worse on clips with smooth gradients or lots of colors.
No. ffmpeg.wasm runs the entire encoding pipeline inside your browser via WebAssembly, the video never leaves your device. The engine itself (about 25MB) does need to download the first time you use the tool.
